Ukrainian National Federation of Canada – Toronto Branch
Canada Summer Jobs Program (CSJ)

Through the support of the Government of Canada, Canada Summer Jobs Program (CSJ), the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada – Toronto Branch will be hiring three (3) summer students in the Greater Toronto Area. The positions will be mainly working out of the UNF Head Office at 145 Evans Ave., Toronto, ON, however may also include some elements of virtual/at-home work.

All current COVID protocols will be in place and a negative COVID test will be required upon start.

The length of employment will be for a period of 12 weeks at 30 hours per week, starting in June, 2021.

The deadline for applications is Friday, May 21st, 2021. The wage rate for these positions $16.00 per hour.

Programming Assistants (3 positions)

The Programming Assistants will work together with various Committees of the UNF in planning, coordinating, and implementing current and future programs for the benefit of Member engagement and Education. Programs will be geared toward a broad spectrum of audience participation including and not limited to Youth and Seniors. Both virtual and in person programs will be planned. There will also be some archival and office duties on site. Day-to-day expectations may also include: Community Outreach and Surveys, General office administration support, Social Media engagement, and preparation of online materials and databases.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in English and proficiency in Ukrainian.
  • Ability to multi-task and problem solve.
  •  Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills
  • A background in any of the following:
    • Early Childhood Education,
    • Marketing,
    • Event Planning
    • Social Media Communications
  • Knowledge of the Ukrainian-Canadian Diaspora Community Organizational structure
  • Excellent Computer skills, mass-marketing tools (i.e. MailChimp) and Social Media

To be Eligible, an Applicant must:

  • Be between 17-30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, or Permanent Resident
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Be a student enrolled in or entering into Post-Secondary Education

Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) Canada Summer Jobs

The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is excited to announce 2 summer job openings at our Head Office in Toronto, funded through the support of the Canada Summer Jobs Program. These positions will be Canada-based only, remote working possible.  

Both positions are full-time, with a length of employment of 11 weeks. Please check the eligibility requirements posted below.

OPEN POSITIONS

Office Assistant 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide general office administrative support, including filing, generating reports, maintaining calendars and appointments 
  • Organize virtual community meetings, webinars, and other community engagement activities/events 
  • Produce memos and minutes, draft presentations, distribute community correspondence and other community communications as assigned
  • Assist with research and maintain a database of community contacts. 

Length of employment: 11 weeks. Anticipated start date: June 14, 2021 

Type of employment: full-time, $16 per hour 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Strong communication, organizational & customer service skills; 
  • Experience working with community organizations; 
  • Basic office management knowledge, ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively; 
  • Solid computer skills, basic MS Office proficiency. Ability to learn new digital tools quickly an asset; 
  • Fluency in English, proficiency in Ukrainian an important asset. 

Communications Specialist

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Support community communications campaigns & media outreach 
  • Lead on social media content creation 
  • Research and write community-related content for the website 
  • Design infographics, draft blogs, and community newsletters 
  • Help plan & implement community outreach events and awareness activities 
  • Build & maintain relationships with community organizations, including cultural groups, seniors’ organizations, youth and newcomer organizations. 

This is an excellent opportunity to develop leadership and project management skills, enhance knowledge of digital tools while working as part of a dynamic and professional team of staff and community volunteers. 

Length of employment: 11 weeks. Anticipated start date: June 21, 2021 

Type of employment: full-time, $16 per hour 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary education; 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including copywriting, editing, and creating social media content; 
  • Experience working with community organizations; 
  • Solid computer skills, knowledge of video editing, graphic design software an asset. Ability to learn new digital tools quickly an asset; 
  • Fluency in English, proficiency in Ukrainian an important asset. 

These positions are funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

To be eligible, you must: 

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment* 
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment** 
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period. 

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.
