Applications are now open for those aged 65 and older, individuals aged 18 to 64 with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate, and children under 18. If you are between 55 and 64 years old without a Disability Tax Credit certificate, you can apply starting May 1, 2025. To qualify for the CDCP, you must:

  • - not have other dental insurance, for example, from a pension, group, employer, or personal plan,
  • - have a family net income of less than $90,000,
  • - be a Canadian resident for tax purposes, and
  • - have filed a tax return in the past year.

If you have a spouse or common-law partner, they must have also filed their tax return.

If you have dental coverage through a provincial social program, such as Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO), the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), or the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Plan (OSDCP), you can still qualify for the CDCP.

If you have the OSDCP you can choose which plan to use. Talk to your dental professional about what's best for you.

ODSP and HSO benefits are coordinated with the CDCP. This means if your dental service costs more than what the CDCP covers, your other benefit can help pay the difference.

You must qualify for the CDCP each year. The government will say later how you can re-apply.

In addition, depending on your family net income, you may be required to pay a co-payment. Families with an income under $70,000 are eligible for 100% coverage. Those earning between $70,000 and $79,999 are covered for 60% of the CDCP maximum amount, while families with incomes between $80,000 and $89,999 receive 40% coverage and pay the remaining balance.
