This was prompted by Bill 215 — Ukrainian Heritage Month Act, 2024, which received royal assent in December 2024. Now, every year, September is officially proclaimed Ukrainian Heritage Month in Ontario.
The recognition process is also continuing at the federal level: in June 2025, a legislative initiative was introduced in Canada — the Ukrainian Heritage Month Act, which, following discussions, is expected to proclaim September as a similar heritage month for the entire country.
We are delighted to welcome this landmark recognition, which highlights the importance of the Ukrainian community — its history, culture, and vitality. This is not just a formality — it is the first time that the contribution of millions of Ukrainian Canadians who have become part of Ontario and national life has been officially recognized.
For us at CUIAS Immigrant Services, this is yet another incentive to do more for you. That is why we continue to hold Ukrainian-language online meetings, support groups, consultations, creative and educational events, because we are convinced that by investing in the community, we are investing in the future of the Community.
In September, during Ukrainian Heritage Month, we are strengthening our program by preparing meetings, lectures, and discussions that will help you better understand your identity, share experiences, and build stronger connections.
