As Canadian Thanksgiving approaches, it’s a wonderful time to pause and reflect on what we are grateful for – and to appreciate the small things that bring warmth and meaning into our lives.
Autumn brings change: shorter days, cooler mornings, and a different rhythm. Sometimes our mood changes with the season too. We may feel less energetic, more nostalgic, or simply need quieter space and rest.
Here are a few gentle practices to support yourself this October:
🍁 Slow down.
Give yourself permission to do things a little more slowly. Not every day needs to be productive.
☕ Create a small autumn ritual.
A warm drink, a candle, a favorite blanket, or a walk among the trees – simple rituals can bring comfort and a sense of stability.
🌿 Reconnect with nature.
Even a 15-minute walk outside can help you reconnect with your body, your surroundings, and the present moment.
📝 Notice what you need.
Instead of asking yourself, “What should I be doing?”, try asking: “What do I need today?”
Rest? Connection? Movement? Quiet? Support?
💛 Practice gratitude gently.
At the end of the day, notice one small thing you appreciate. It doesn’t have to be something extraordinary – a kind message, a sunny afternoon, or a moment of peace is enough.
And perhaps the most important practice: allow yourself to change with the season. You don’t have to feel the same way in October as you did in July. Different seasons can bring different needs – and that’s okay.
This Thanksgiving, may we find moments of gratitude, connection, and kindness toward ourselves and others. 🍂
